Green Light for Greengairs East Wind Farm
North Lanarkshire Council has given the green light to Greengairs East Wind Farm, which would be located South of Greengairs and North of Caldercruix. if approved, local communities would set to benefit from the £120,000-a-year community benefit fund.
The decision means that local communities are in line to benefit from £3m of community benefit funding over the 25 year life of the project, which would be split equally amongst the communities of Greengairs, Plains, Caldercruix, Longriggend and Upperton.
The wind farm, which is being developed by Carnwath-based Muirhall Energy, has had the support of a number of local groups. It would comprise eight turbines, and generate the equivalent annual electricity consumption of just under 12,000 households.
Speaking on the decision, Peter Marshall, Senior Project Manager, Muirhall Energy, said:
“We’re delighted that the Planning Committee has approved the project, recognising the support from community groups at Greengairs, Plains, Caldercruix and Upperton."
“We’d like to thank those groups and we look forward to continuing working with them as we develop our plans for the project."
“Muirhall Energy is committed to working with local suppliers wherever possible, and we have a policy of favouring local businesses in our procurement process so we would encourage businesses that are interested in working with us to get in touch.”
