Muirhall Energy teamed up with Springboard UK for the second year running, to help deliver immersive three-day ‘Introduction to Hospitality’ programmes for selected students from both Lockerbie and Langholm Academy – the two closest secondary schools to the Crossdykes and Loganhead Wind Farm developments.

On the first two days the young people explored all aspects of the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry through industry related visits to The Eskdale Hotel (Langholm), The Townhead Hotel (Lockerbie) and Smiths at Gretna Green. In these venues they had ‘behind the scenes’ tours and dining experiences, a visit to the Penthouse Suite in Smiths, as well as a tour of one of Scotland’s most visited tourist attractions –  ‘The Old Blacksmiths’ of Gretna Green.

This was followed up by a visit to the Glasgow Science Centre on the third day, where the pupils were able to gain further understanding of Renewable Energy in the ‘Powering the Future‘ interactive exhibition.

The programme culminated with the groups organising their own presentation events at their respective schools, where the pupils discussed their learning experience from the programme to invited parents and guests, and were presented with their participation certificates.

Janet Butterworth of Springboard said:

“I was impressed that the group took in so much. They were really engaged and displayed all the attributes needed to succeed in the industry.”

Jenny Samuels, pupil of Langholm Academy said:

“I really enjoyed my time working on my hospitality, leisure and tourism skills. I didn’t realise that so many jobs were in the industry.”

Alastair Yule, Senior Development Manager at Muirhall Energy,

“We are delighted to have been able to team up with Springboard for the 2nd year running to support these programmes. As a company, we pride ourselves with trying to understand the needs and aspirations of communities surrounding our renewable energy projects and are delighted that the programmes have proved so popular with the students.”
